Trading 212 Registration & Verification Guide

Trading 212 operates under one of the strictest regimes of financial regulation in the world. Therefore, the broker must strictly comply with the requirements of the Know Your Customer Policy and Anti-Money Laundering Policy. This requires that any trade and funds transactions be conducted in a transparent and legally accountable manner. For clients, this means they must go through a process of verifying their identity and residency. At the same time, however, the broker allows you to fully explore all the functionalities of the trading platform, the dashboard on the website and the mobile application in demo mode.

The initial registration of an account with Trading 212 is very easy and quick – all you have to do is specify your country of residence, choose an account type (Invest or CFD), enter an email address, create a password and indicate agreement with the legal documentation. One customer can have all types of accounts at the same time.

After the initial registration you get full access to a Demo account with 5000 currency units. Switching between this Demo account, called “practice mode”, and your real accounts is a one-click process. The same applies to switching between different account types. The practice mode allows you not only to familiarize yourself with the functionality of the Trading 212 trading platform, but also at any time to test trading strategies in parallel with your real investments, but without risking real money.

To start trading for real, you must go through a verification process required by EU,  UK and Australian financial regulators. This process involves email verification, which may be different from the one used for initial registration. Providing a phone number is required, but verification is not required. You must provide detailed personal details – first and last name, nationality, date of birth. You are required to provide details of your tax status, including a tax identification number and a declaration of whether you are a tax resident of more than one country, particularly the United States.

The account setup process also includes  completing a detailed questionnaire designed to establish your level of knowledge of derivatives and leveraged trading and associated risks, your financial situation, investment intentions and legal compliance. If your answers do not meet the set standards, the broker could refuse you from registering a live account and depositing real money.

Verification of identity is then required, including providing a copy of ID, selfie and proof of address. The entire registration and verification process can be completed through both the Trading 212 website and mobile app.
